Southern Cross Band - Lady Killer & Outlaw (Josie Wales) (1982)

Thanks to Jorge for this rare gem. It's a promo single from (New York?) Southern Rockers the Southern Cross Band. I tried to find information about this band on the internet, but found little more than the fact that both these songs had been released on sample albums which featured other bands as well ("The Apple WAPP FM" and "A Double Shot of Local Talent"). No doubt some people will ignore this, simply for being from up North, but if you can look past geographical boundaries, you just might find you get what you need. "Lady Killer" is the uptempo Southern Rocker, while "Outlaw (Josie Wales)" is a terrific classic Southern Rock song. Alas it suffers a few skips and some crackle, but all in all this is splendid stuff.

Hey fella, nice blog, many thanks for all the great music.
I feel it's about time i gave something back.
Would you like the rare 1982 promo single from Southern Cross Band to post here?
It's got "Lady Killer" on the A Side and "The Outlaw (Josey Wales)" on the flipside.
I can supply it if you wish, just let me know where to send the link.
Thanks again for all you do here,
Jorge Larionda

A little further info, Southern Cross Band were based in Long Island and were formed by two brothers who moved to New Jersey from the South. So they weren't really New Yorkers at all, apart from their bass player.
I saw them a few times over the years playing at various tri-state dive bars and occasionally on the bill with national acts.
Good times, thanks for the memories, great to hear them again.

Hey, just found this, lots of inaccuracies! They were mostly from Knoxville, Tenn and relocated to New Jersey. They were not founded by two brothers, but were eventually fronted by Joe and Sonny Prewitt, neither of whom were original members. From the mid to late seventies through the mid eighties they were perhaps the most popular, successful local band in the tri state area, playing sold out shows at large clubs and venues consistantly 5 nights a week. Yes, they openned for many national acts, but going to one of there shows, as was the case with another local band at the time, Twisted Sister, was lilke a concert atmosphere every night. In fact, Twisted Sister and SCB co-headlined a show at the famous Glen Island Casino in the early 80's at which there were an estimated 6,000 people, one of whom was me!
