Rusty Wier - Rusty & Son (1999)
♫
It's been some time since I last posted some Rusty Wier, but I'm more than making up for that right now (and a big thank you Frank for that). This is Rusty playing with son Coby, doing a live show that's as good as it gets. It'll put a smirk on your face as well, for Rusty's quite the storyteller with a great sense of humor. For your convenience, I would classify this as Outlaw Country, though musically there's a lot of similarities to Southern Rock. Tasty picking, characteristic vocals, good songs, great vibe. Eight songs making up for 58 minutes of good time music. Not much I can add to what I said in previous posts, but this is by no means any less than his best. Quervo's Gold?

Rusty Wier - Kum-Bak Bar & Grill (1987)
♫

This Rusty Wier album is his most Country album. Er.. Hey, but it's excellent. I've said it a couple times before and I'll say it again: do yourself a favor, go get yourself some Rusty! He has a magnificent voice, sings great songs, he has that Outlaw thingy I love so much and... I added 3 live tracks as a bonus. Come on y'all, do some Daytime Drinkin'!

Rusty Wier - Live At Poor David's Pub (1994)
♫

Here's a treat for y'all. It's a live show by the highly entertaining Rusty Wier, and it's one of my favorite posts of the last months. Just some guitar and vocals, no band this time. For those unfamiliar with Rusty, he's a singer-songwriter of the Outlaw Country type. Slightly tougher than Guy Clark, playing some great songs, possessing a very characteristic, pleasant voice and very amusing and endearing. The sound is excellent, making you feel like you're there. Some surprising cover versions of "Amie" and "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", this whole show is wonderful (thanks Matt!). I think it's time for you to get into Rusty. And this is as good a start as any. Something else.

Rusty Wier - Stoned, Slow, Rugged (1974)
♫

This is Rusty Wier's debut album. And it's the one most likely to win over new converts among Southern Rock fans. It's tough yet homey. Above all, it's excellent. I could go on at lengths about Rusty, but what it all boils down to: grab this people! Rusty Wier is too good to miss out on. Great songs, ranging from pure Southern Rock to Outlaw Country. Rusty would never walk the line, he's always had his own plan. Too bad he's no longer among us. But at least he's left us some of the finest music most of you never heard. And I think it's time for a change. Get busted!

Rusty Wier - Stacked Deck (1977)
♫

"Stacked Deck" was the follow-up to "Black Hat Saloon" and is rocking slightly more. But still there's that unmistakable voice. And some more than adequate picking. Here Rusty tries his hand at Lindsey Buckingham's "Lola" and "Don't Let Me Down Again" (both from the Buckingham Nicks album), and succeeding convincingly. No original Rusty Wier songs this time around, but a great selection of songs all the same. Top-notch Outlaw Country, boys & girls! Oh, and did I mention that voice already? Good, good lovin'.

Rusty Wier - Are We There Yet? (1997)
♫

"Are We There Yet?" is more classic Rusty Wier for you. Absolutely one of my all-time favorite Outlaws (along with Joe Sun) ever. Very tasty music, ideal for playing in the evening while mellowing down from rocking out all day long. Yeah right. Enjoy Rusty's distinctive voice, lovely melodies, great lyrics and fine picking. Quervo's Gold..

Rusty Wier - Don't It Make You Wanna Dance? (1975)
♫

"Don't It Make You Wanna Dance?" is Rusty Wier's second album and, since it features his most covered track "Don't It Make You Wanna Dance?", likely to be his best known. Some artists you just can't go wrong with, Rusty Wier being one for sure. Rusty's music is the best among Outlaw Country/Austin Country, and this album sure nuff confirms that statement with ease. Besides the title-track, here we also find the beautiful "Sally Mae". And this album knows plenty Southern Rock moments as well. Lovely album by a lovely artists (alas no longer with us). Broaden your horizon and get this. Sing me..

Rusty Wier - Black Hat Saloon (1976)
♫

"Black Hat Saloon" was the album that got me acquainted to Rusty Wier's music. I was always on the lookout for new Southern Rock, but I also very much enjoy the Outlaw Country scene. Well, Rusty's music's right in the middle of all that sweet goodness. I still think this album ranks among his best, though I really love them all. Rusty rocks some and knows his way with Country too, though there's nothing sappy about this music. Great lyrics and a good sense of humor combined with great musicianship and a terrific, characteristic voice. He may be quite unknown, but there's no justice in that. So, do yourself a favor, grab this and enjoy. I think it's time.

Rusty Wier - Rusty Wier (1975)
♫

Rusty Wier was a bit of a cult legend on the Austin, Texas scene. Was, since he sadly passed away on October 9 this year. He will be missed, that's for sure. Because Rusty did make some wonderful records since 1974, holding ground somewhere in between Outlaw Country and Southern Rock, though his later albums leaned more towards Country.
This album, "Rusty Wier", from 1975 should attract quite a few Southern Rock fans, though. It's his second album and it's a really fine ride. There's a great groove throughout the music on this record and there are some cool cats playing along. Pick of the day: "Dixie Lynn". Rusty has a very distinctive voice, which I absolutely love to bits. If you haven't heard about Rusty before, this is where you get on. Fly away..
