Point Blank - Airplay (1979)

Veterans Point Blank are still at it. Currently they're in rehearsal for a new CD and 2011 tour, but let's not forget their excellent 70's albums. No longer in print, I guess this album, "Airplay", is my favorite. Plenty of good ol' Southern Rock as usual, but this time they had a little extra something. Or rather, somebody. I really love the contributions to this album by keyboard player Steve Hardin. He penned some of the greatest tunes on this album, like "Mean To Your Queenie" and "Danger Zone", which he also sang. And even though John O' Daniel is quite a pretty fine singer, I really love Steve's vocals. This is the only Point Blank album he's played on, and it makes me wonder if there's more music out there with him singing. Anyway, this also features the semi Progressive Southern Rock song "Penthouse Pauper", which is absolute killer. You van also check out this video of the band live in action in 2005 at Rockpalast (thanks to Bigfootkit). Great stuff, folks! Shine on!

Point Blank - Cold Warrior (1979)

"Cold Warrior" is the Point Blank bootleg I've come across most often. Which does not mean it's the least of 'em circulating. As a matter of fact, what we have here is yet another fine example of how great a Southern Rock band Point Blank is. They're loud and passionate. This is a show of the band promoting their, in my opinion, finest album, "Airplay". It's an FM broadcast, quality is pretty good. Nuff said. Thunder & Lightning!

Point Blank - BBC Rock Hour (1981)

Another Point Blank live show for ya, and a hot one at that. I know hardcore Point Blank fans may disregard the period after original lead singer John O'Daniel quit, but I love it to bits. I only got to know Point Blank well after they disbanded, and I was quite taken by the "On A Roll" album. I thought new singer Bubba Keith (formerly of The James Gang) was really a wonderful singer. Sure, the music started leaning a whole lot more towards AOR, but, unlike many other Southern Rock bands that made their move towards AOR (38 Special and even Molly Hatchet), Point Blank still had some very good compositions. And, as you can hear here, live they were still one hell of a band. I don't think Bubba's screwing up the old songs (au contraire, mon frère) and he performs beautifully on the new ones. And the band is rocking, oh yeah, they're rocking alright. I prefer the version of "Highway Star" here over the one recorded for the "The Hard Way" album. And this is a great sounding live show too. This is also circulating under other titles, like "Miami Excess", and it's the band promoting the "American Excess" album, which featured their biggest hit, "Nicole". Get in the swing and rock on. Do it all night!

Point Blank - King Biscuit Flower Hour (1980)

Point Blank are from Texas and they're still around today. It's a very good Southern Rock band and a couple of their albums are still available on CD. And then there are some live boots floating around, one of which is this fiery little King Biscuit Flower Hour concert from 1980. An excellent sounding show, showcasing them at their very best. It's music on the Rock side of Southern, recorded around the time of their fourth studio album "The Hard Way". This show also features one of my favorite songs, "Penthouse Pauper" from the "Airplay" album. And they're doing it really well on this recording. Unfortunately it's only a small part but it runs into a rocking version of "Louisiana Leg", making things up nicely (thank you Luc for the correction). Great guitars, great vocals as well. Lots of energy, so, go for it! They like to think of themselves as Rock & Roll Soldiers...
